Tomato chutney is a South Indian condiment made with onion, tomatoes, spices, and herbs. It's typically served with south Indian breakfast foods such as idli and dosa. But don't confine it to south Indian cuisine! Serve with sandwiches, pakoras, parathas, and other munchies.

Ingredients
6nosTomatoeschopped into medium size
4nosOnionchopped into medium size
6nosRed chilli
2tspGingelly Oil
For the seasoning
1 1/2tspMustard seeds
1tbspUrad dal
Curry leavesfew

Instructions
Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan, saute red chillies for a few seconds and remove it from the pan.
In the same pan, add onions and saute until onions are slightly brown.
Now add tomatoes and cook until tomatoes become slightly mushy and let it cool.
Once the mixture cools, grind it along with red chillies and salt as per required.(Do not grind to a smooth paste)
Heat 2 tbsp of oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal and curry leaves.
Once dal turns golden brown, add the ground chutney to it. Mix well.
Add salt and cook until oil separates and your chutney is ready to serve.
Serve hot with dosa, idli, chapati, sandwich, paniyaram, upma, adai,etc.
Notes
You can store this chutney in the refrigerator for about 2 or 3 days or even for a week.The amount of onions, tomatoes, and red chilies in this onion tomato chutney recipe can also be changed to suit your preferences. Depending on the type and number of red chilies used, the chutney's colour may vary.
