Now that was a surprise gift that I received. But that doesn’t mean that every review that I will be doing will be a gift that I will receive.. lol. We had ordered this one from Amazon.com and since delivery to India involves Import Duty and other charges, this came in a little costlier that what we expected to be. But, I am extremely happy that it is more than worth the cost.
For somebody like me the staple diet of whose family is rice, this is a must have. But even if you don’t cook rice everyday, this can help you do away with all the time-consuming work involved in cooking rice and can ensure that your save a lot of time.
I have always followed the conventional way of cooking rice and this change was full of skepticism. I was not sure how this would turn out to be but the end result was something I was really satisfied with.
Zojirushi Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer NS-TSC18 Review
One of the best things about this appliance is that it is not just a rice cooker, but also a rice warmer and a steamer that can bake cakes as well. It comes in 2 variants – 1 liter and 1.8 litre. I went for the 1.8 litre one because that gave me additional flexibility.
This rice cooker has a variety of cooking functions like white rice, mixed rice, porridge, cake, steaming, quick cooking etc, though I have only used about 3 of them until now. There is a black thick inner cooking pan which heats evenly, thus helping in faster cooking. I also liked the different changeable beep tunes that indicated the completion of a function.

I was not so much into buying this cooker at first. In most cases when the two of us decide on a gift for each other, we discuss and then buy it. While there is no element of surprise left in the gifting, at least we are able to buy the one thing that we both like. So it never happens that these gifts end up in the almirah.
It was the same with this one as well. When Dilip asked me to check this out, I decided that I will do it when I get some time. And when that happened, it was this review below that I read first. And I had made up my mind immediately after I had finished reading it (particularly note the mention of “basmati” in the review).
That was a super impressive review. And I am sure, anybody who reads that will be influenced. After I decided I would buy it and we had placed an order, I had after-thoughts and felt I got carried-away when deciding to buy it. I even felt I should cancel this but somehow resisted that thought. By the way that is a situation that we all get into immediately after we make a decision to buy something that we were not really planning to buy.
But I am glad I did not cancel it.
So onto my review of the Zojirushi Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer NS-TSC18.
The Rice cooker itself was very sturdily built and of extremely good quality stainless steel. The inner was also of steel and looked durable. The buttons were soft touch with a nice display unit in front. The controls were very easy to understand and good enough for daily operation. The lid lock was sturdy too and durable.
Rice was cooked to a nice consistency in the cooker. You will never ever come across a situation of over-cooked or, under-cooked rice. At least it never happened to me, in spite of me not being very particular at selecting a specific operation.
The warmer itself is super-effective and can hold rice, warm without damaging it.
The only caution is that you should use the measuring glass that comes along with the appliance in order to measure the quantity of rice you want to cook.
Cleaning was super-easy. This is one aspect that keeps me away from all of these geeky machines when it comes to cooking. But this cooker is simply amazing. You will just not need to worry about getting into corners and not being able to clean the appliance well.
If you are somebody like me who feels only if the day had 25 hours so you could get 60 minutes to spend with your family, then this one is a must buy.
