About the Recipe for Coconut Chutney:

Coconut oil is one of the few foods that has been classified as “Super Foods”. Research shows that Coconut has a lot of benefits and so does coconut oil.

Some research says that Coconut oil is good for the heart and yet others say that it helps prevent obesity. All of this makes it one essential part of your food habits.

One of the reasons I like Dosa, Idli, and Appam is because of the tasty Coconut chutney it is served with. The flavor of coconut gives it a nice aroma and taste that adds to anything that it is served with.

While there are many different varieties of coconut chutneys, I like the dry chutney the most. This dry chutney is what is normally served with Appam. But a lot of people like the wet chutney as well.

The difference in each of these could be just the addition of tamarind or, onion, chilly powder instead of green chilies, or, tempering. But the taste of the chutney changes drastically with each of these.

Serving Suggestion:

This wet coconut chutney goes really well with appam, but this can also be served along with Idli and Dosa.

Storage Suggestion:

This wet coconut chutney remains fresh for one day when stored in the refrigerator. However, it’s advisable to consume it only after ensuring it hasn’t spoiled. In hot environments, coconut chutney may spoil more quickly.

To make this recipe for coconut chutney, you need to be careful about two things mentioned below,

Basic Ingredients Used to Make this Recipe:

Coconut: Coconut is the key ingredient in this recipe. Freshly grated coconut works well for coconut chutney. If fresh coconut is unavailable, you can use desiccated coconut or frozen coconut.

Shallots (small onion): Shallots make the chutney taste special, adding a strong flavor. If you don’t have shallots, you can use red onions instead; it will taste a bit different but still good.

Dry Red Chilli: Dry red chilies bring spiciness to the chutney, giving it a flavorful kick. If you don’t have dry red chilies, you can use red chili powder or fresh green chilies instead. Adjust the amount based on how spicy you like it.

Salt: Salt boosts the flavors in the chutney, balancing the sweetness of coconut and the strong taste of shallots.

Water: Water is used to make the chutney the right thickness and to blend the ingredients smoothly. But make sure you use just a little water.
