Tamarind Chutney

About Tamarind Chutney:

India is known for street food. If you go to any corner in India, you will find street hawkers selling chaat items, paani poori, and many more. I am a hardcore chaat lover and I can have chaat any time of the day.

I still remember my college days, when my father used to give me money for transportation, but I used to save that money to binge on a chaat every day after college.

But the time has changed now, nowadays.

Nowadays I don’t prefer having chaat items on the roadside, first due to the hygiene issue, and second, you don’t get good chaat everywhere.
So I started making chaat items at home itself.

No, it’s not that difficult. If you do the prep work then you are all set to make any kind of chaat recipe at home itself. And once you are done with all your prep work, all you have to do is to assemble everything.

So what are those preps?

Have you ever noticed that whenever you have a chaat there are a few things very common in them?

Those things are the delicious chutneys spread over the chaat.

So if your chutneys are ready, then your chaat is ready.

Yes, it’s that simple. In this post, I will explain to you how to make Tamarind chutney for chaat easily.

Basic Ingredients Used to Make Tamarind Chutney:

Tamarind: Use good quality tamarind, preferably seedless.

Jaggery and Sugar: I liked the mix of both. You can either use both or any one of them. You can also use dates for the natural sugar. You can check out my recipe for Tamarind and dates sauce here.

Spice powder: I am using Chilli Powder, Ginger powder, and Roasted cumin powder. These together give a nice punch to the chutney.

Water: Adjust the quantity of water depending on the consistency of the Chutney you want. I made it slightly thin. So if you want runny consistency then add more water and if you want it thick reduce the water also simmer and thicken.

Black Salt: I love adding black salt to my chutney, but you can replace it with normal salt if you want.
