Cashew Sauce

About Cashew Sauce Recipe:

In case you’re looking for a rich, velvety sauce that is dairy-free and plant-based, cashew sauce is what you can make at home.

With just a few simple basic ingredients available in your kitchen – cashews, garlic, salt, and water – you can whip up a delicious sauce that will transform any dish that you serve it with.

Cashew sauce is popular for vegans and people who don’t eat dairy. It has a creamy texture and nutty taste, because of the use of cashews.

This makes it a good replacement for sauces made with cream or cheese. Cashew sauce is also \easy to make. You only need a few basic ingredients that most people have at home.

So say no to those unhealthy mayonnaise and sauces and replace them with this creamy cashew sauce.

Serving Suggestion:

Cashew cream sauce is very useful. You can use it as a dip for veggies and crackers.

You can also drizzle it on roasted veggies and baked potatoes. Toss the sauce with pasta for a creamy, dairy-free alfredo sauce.

Cashew sauce can be a good replacement for many other sauces too.

Storage Suggestion:

Cashew sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

If you plan on keeping it longer, you can freeze it in portions for up to 3 months. Simply, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before using.

I prefer making it in small batches so that we know that what we are consuming is good and healthy. So make as much as you can finish in 4-5 days.

Pro Tips for the recipe for cashew cream:

Soaking Cashew: Make sure to soak the cashews in water for at least 4 hours (or overnight) before blending. This will help soften them and make them easier to blend into a smooth sauce.

Use a high-speed blender: To get the silky smooth texture use a high-powered blender. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, you may need to blend the sauce longer.

Adjust the consistency: Add water as needed to get the desired consistency. Also, make sure to add water little by little.

Why You Should Make this Recipe:

Beyond being dairy-free and vegan-friendly, cashew sauce has several advantages like,

  1. Packed with healthy fats and plant-based protein from the cashews.
  2. Great substitute for mayonnaise or any other creamy sauce that you buy from the store.
  3. It’s budget-friendly, especially when compared to expensive dairy-based sauces or vegan cheese alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions About this Recipe:

Do I need to soak the cashews before making the cashew sauce?

Yes, it’s very important to soak the raw cashews in water for 4-8 hours before blending. Soaking cashews helps in softening them up so you can get an ultra-smooth, creamy sauce. But in case you are short of time you can do a quick 15-30-minute hot water soak and that too should work.

Can I use roasted cashews instead of raw?

Roasted cashews will give the sauce a nuttier flavor, but can make the texture grainy. This sauce looks and tastes good if it has a smoother texture. So I would advise using raw unsalted cashews for this recipe.

How can I make the sauce thinner or thicker?

To thin it out, you can add more water. Make sure to add a tablespoon or two at a time until you reach your desired pourable consistency. To thicken, you can add more cashews and that should work.

How long does cashew sauce stay fresh?

Fresh cashew sauce can be refrigerated for 4-5 days and consumed. You can freeze it for 2-3 months – just defrost overnight before using and it should taste fine.
